At SPAR we recognise the changing and growing social, economic and environmental view espoused by employees, consumers, retailers and suppliers who will all demand better corporate responsibility from companies in relation to environmental initiatives.
SPAR recognises the need to implement a strategy embracing environmental and social accountability. The social impact of environmental sustainability has been likened to a 'Green Wave' sweeping into everyone's daily life.
SPAR Australia has developed an Environmental Strategy which provides a blueprint for the future that links in with the organisations overarching strategy, developing clear targets and monitoring systems to ensure commitment to sustainability and competitive advantage.
Under our Environmental Strategy, SPAR has identified two key goals to ensure the company's commitment to environmental sustainability:
SPAR has identified four key steps in association with our 'ECO' plan:
Our SPAR team have begun implementing a number of key initiatives aimed at a substantial reduction in the critical areas of waste management, energy reduction and water conservation. These initiatives will assist SPAR to reduce its carbon footprint and the amount of CO2 emissions on a range of business operations. We have also developed a “Buy Green Policy” and “ECO Purchasing Policy” and have commenced a program to assist our store owners in implementing ECO friendly initiatives in their SPAR stores.
Our SPAR stores will introduce store – Green Code of Conduct and training, as well as guidelines which will be provided to new staff emphasising the importance of environmental sustainability.
We have also implemented guidelines for the building of new SPAR stores to incorporate ECO friendly materials and construction methods.
At SPAR we care about our environment and we have the right plans in place be as ECO friendly as possible.
