SPAR is a leading global brand and is the world’s largest food retailer, with approximately 15,000 stores in 35 countries.  SPAR originated in the Netherlands 75 years ago and now, through its affiliate SPAR organisations, operates through most European countries, South Africa, Asia and Australia.  SPAR Australia Limited is the Licensor holder for SPAR in the Australian region.

SPAR Australia Limited was established in December 2002, then under the name Australian Retail Logistix Limited.  The Company was set up by independent retailers to acquire and operate the former Woolworths owned AIW distribution business in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane.

In October 2006, following shareholder approval, the name of the Company was changed from Australian Retail Logistix Limited to SPAR Australia Limited.

SPAR Australia Limited is an unlisted public company with an elected Board of Directors. The Board comprises five non-executive Directors, three of whom are non-retail and two who are experienced retailers.

The principal activity of the SPAR Australia Limited is involved in the procurement, storage, and distribution of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) to Independent Supermarkets.  The Company also provides marketing and retail services to approximately 300 independent retail supermarkets in the SPAR and 5 Star banner groups located in Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory and Pacific Island areas.

The Company is one of only two suppliers on the Eastern Seaboard of Australia and SPAR Australia operates a large distribution centre of some 40,000 sq mtrs from premises located at Acacia Ridge on the Southern side of Brisbane.  The SPAR Distribution Centre carries approximately 20,000 pallets of dry grocery lines with a further 4,000 pallets of frozen/chilled product stored at Versacold Logistics’ facility at Murarrie.

The Distribution Centre is technology enabled, utilising the latest ERP computer platform linked via a warehouse management system and RF technology.
